Frequently asked questions
- How does earning screen time work?
- Every step you take earns minutes on the apps you locked. The Recommended rate is 10 minutes per 1,000 steps; Easier is 15 and Strict is 5. You spend minutes in 10-minute unlocks, from the lock screen of a locked app or from the Home tab. Easy mode starts each day with 30 minutes and two 5-minute passes. Hard mode starts at zero. Change the rate and mode in Settings > Difficulty.
- How do I change which apps are locked?
- In the app, go to Settings > Locked Apps and pick again in Apple's picker. Locking more apps applies right away. Unlocking an app waits until the next day, so the change isn't made in the moment you most want in.
- My apps aren't locking, or my steps aren't counting.
- Open Settings > Apps not locking? or Settings > Steps not counting? in the app. Each page checks the permission that decides it and gives you the fix.
- How do I cancel my subscription?
- Apple bills and manages the subscription, not us. In the app, tap Settings > Manage Subscription, or on your iPhone go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the app keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting StepScroll, or turning off its Screen Time access, removes every lock at once.
- How do I get a refund?
- Apple handles all refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com with the Apple Account you paid with. We can't issue refunds ourselves, because we never see your payment.
- I'm on a new phone, or I reinstalled. How do I get my plan back?
- If you signed in with Apple or Google: on the first screen, tap Already have an account? Sign in (or Been here before? Restore my plan if the app offers it) and use the same account. Your deal, your mode, your setup answers and your day history come back. Then allow Screen Time and pick your apps again: Apple keeps your app choices on the phone that made them, so they can't move. If you never signed in, there is no copy to bring back, so set up again.
- How do I restore my subscription?
- Your subscription belongs to your Apple Account, not your StepScroll sign-in. On a phone signed in to the same Apple Account, it is restored when you reach the subscription screen. You can also tap Settings > Restore Purchases, or on the first screen's sign-in sheet, Subscribed without an account? Restore. Restoring never charges you again.
- What gets saved to my account if I sign in?
- Your rate and mode, your setup answers, a change you queued for tomorrow, and one line per day with how many unlocks you spent, borrowed and repaid and how many passes you used. Never your step count, never Screen Time data, and never which apps you lock. The privacy policy has the details.
- How do I delete my account and my data?
- If you signed in, go to Settings > Account > Delete account. You sign in once more to confirm, and the sign-in, its email and name and your plan backup are deleted. Deleting the account doesn't cancel the subscription; cancel that in Settings > Manage Subscription. Deleting the app deletes its data from the phone except one thing: iOS keeps StepScroll's user ID, and your sign-in if you made one, in the phone's keychain, so a reinstall can bring a signed-in plan back without signing in again. To remove the sign-in, delete your account (or sign out) in Settings > Account before you delete the app. To have your usage analytics, paywall and crash records deleted too, email us from Settings > Contact Support in the app. From version 1.5 that email includes a Support ID, which is how we find your records, whether or not you signed in. On an older version, update the app first.
- Can StepScroll see my steps or which apps I use?
- Your step count stays on your iPhone and is never sent to us. StepScroll can't see which apps you use or for how long: Apple gives it tokens it can't read. The privacy policy lists everything the app does send.
